As the short video clip of what Gateway City Church had done for the past one year played on the projector screen, an overwhelming sense of worship and thanksgiving to our great God dawned upon us all. Looking back at glimpses of what we have experienced throughout the past two years as a church, we can truly testify that we have seen and tasted God’s faithfulness and grace.

A visual reminder of God’s goodness in GCC throughout 2009!

Yes, if you don’t already know, GCC celebrated its second anniversary on the 31st January 2010! GCC is already two years old! From the vision that God had planted in the hearts of Pastor Edward and Pastor Selina to the first move into the conference hall of e-Gate, to the purchasing of the current sanctuary and to the growth of the church, God has always been there to see the growth of GCC, always guiding, leading and teaching but never forsaking. The celebration is truly about Him, to remember His goodness.

We had many guests and visitors who came to be a part of this celebration. Praise and worship was great. There was a sense of overwhelming joy, thanksgiving and worship. The kids presented a song of offering, written by Nathalynn, entitled “God, You’re amazing”. Indeed, He is amazing! Ashlynn presented a dance offering along with the song “In Christ Alone”.

This year’s anniversary saw Pastor Palan, the senior pastor of Reservoir Garden Baptist Church (RGBC), as the speaker, delivering a timely sermon entitled “Doing the right thing, the right way”. The sermon was based on 1 Chronicles 13: 1-14. Pastor Palan pointed out the need for believers to do things the right way and it is something that we as a young church have to start applying. Many times, because of our imperfections, our good intention may go hand in hand with the wrong approach and God will not be pleased with it even though we may have the right intentions.

Therefore, in all that we do, we must first consult God. We need to get our consultation right. If we seek to honour God, the first step is to inquire God of His plans, to pray for direction. Often, we enjoy the approval of men and not God but that has got to change if we truly want to glorify Him. And since this is the Year of Deepening for GCC, it is appropriate that we come back to the roots of prayer. We need to begin to invest our time in prayer, talking and inquiring the Lord on our knees. To grow deeper in God, we must also start rejecting worldly methods in our lives. We cannot use worldly methods and expect God to be pleased with us. No, God will not be pleased. We cannot compromise God’s position in our lives with that of the world.

2010 - The Year of Deepening.

It is easy for us to be clouded by good intentions but still end up executing things the wrong way. As a young church, we want to start building the right foundations the right way. The journey ahead is still a long one. As we continue to plough and to invest in His kingdom, we continue to keep in our minds, hearts and soul that He is the reason why we are doing what we are doing, and above that, to do it well and to do it the right way.
